Émile Ravaud — Blue Reliquary of the Forest Émile Ravaud’s Blue Reliquary of the Forest is a work that brings back almost the same stage set—forest, moon, and that deep blue—from his preceding “moonlit nude,” while quietly “sealing” the subject itself. In the nude, skin caught the moonlight and carried the warmth of a living body. Here, that warmth is transplanted into the dress. The black velvet, the constriction of the corset, the edge of lace, and the sheen of IKB-blue satin—these materials trace the outline of desire in place of flesh. Not revealing, but wrapping. Less exposure, yet the sensuality grows denser. That’s Ravaud’s slyness (a compliment).
