Forest Echoes Part 1.
By Pocahontas
The night was suffocatingly dark as Elena ran through the dense woods, the branches scraping against her arms. She pressed the silent, wrapped bundle closer to her chest, her heart hammering against her ribs. Behind her, the heavy, snapping sounds of footsteps echoed through the trees—he was still closing the distance. Her breath came in ragged gasps, her lungs burning in the freezing air. She knew she couldn't outrun him forever, not while carrying the extra weight, and her strength was rapidly fading. She had to make a choice, and she had to make it now. It wasn't about her survival anymore; it was entirely about the baby's. Heartbroken, she knew she had no other choice. Tears streaming down her face, she pressed a soft, lingering kiss onto her baby’s forehead. Holding her close one last time, she choked back her sobs to sing a quiet, devastatingly sad lullaby, memorizing the weight of her child before letting go forever. She held her baby close, tears stinging her eyes. Time was running out. With a trembling hand, she whispered a powerful spell of protection, weaving her love and magic around the child. She gently laid the baby into the basket, smoothing the blanket one last time. Choking back a sob, she sang a soft, heartbreaking lullaby, pouring her entire soul into the final words: "With this spell, we will find each other again one day." Then, she let go. Early in the morning, a couple was out doing their daily chores when a sharp cry broke the silence of the woods. Elena froze, her heart racing. She ran deep into the forest, following the sound until she found a tiny baby wrapped up on the forest floor. Tears welled in her eyes. For years, she had desperately wanted a child, a dream she thought was impossible. Elrond caught up to her, his face tight with worry and confusion. "Elena, we can't just take her," he urged, looking around nervously. "We don't know who she belongs to, or who her parents are." "But we can't just leave her here alone," Elena pleaded, cradling the baby close to her chest. "Look around, Elrond. There’s no one." Elrond scanned the empty, quiet trees, his mind racing with doubt. Elena looked at him, her voice trembling with emotion. "We have prayed to be parents for so long. This is our chance." Elrond looked from his wife's tear-stained, hopeful face down to the fragile baby. The hesitation in his chest melted away, and he softly gave in, nodding his approval. heir arms kept them warm. As they stepped along the sidewalk, her heart swelled with a mixture of overwhelming love and a quiet anxiety. She looked down at the tiny, sleeping face and wondered who this little person would become. "What are we going to name her?" she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. He looked over, a soft smile breaking across his face. They bounced a few ideas back and forth, rejecting names that didn't feel quite right. Then, he suggested it. "How about Fiona?" She stopped walking for a moment, letting the name settle in her mind. She looked back down at the baby, and tears prickled the corners of her eyes. It fit perfectly. "Fiona," she whispered. "Welcome home, Fiona." They walked through the front door, holding the baby close to their hearts. Looking around the quiet house, a wave of reality hit them—there was so much to change, so many rooms to prepare, and a million things they didn't yet know how to do. Anxiety tugged at them, but as they looked down at the tiny, breathing bundle in their arms, all the fear melted away. They knew the road ahead would be overwhelming, but it didn't matter. Deep down, they knew they would love this child with every ounce of their souls, fully and completely, as their very own. As time passed, the baby grew into a happy little girl. One day, while her parents were busy working, Fiona was playing outside in the yard. Suddenly, a strange melody drifted through the air. The song felt deeply familiar, tugging at her heart and bringing back a flood of forgotten memories, though she couldn't quite remember who it belonged to. Her eyes began to glow as if she were in a trance. Drawn by an overwhelming, irresistible pull, she turned away from her home and followed the mysterious sound deep into the forest. Fiona walked through the dark, quiet forest. The shadows were thick, but suddenly, the soft sound of a girl singing drifted through the trees. Fiona followed the voice and found a girl about her own age. The girl stopped singing immediately, her eyes wide with surprise. She hadn't expected to see another kid out here in the middle of nowhere. "Who are you?" Fiona asked gently. "My name is... Maria," the girl whispered, nervously shifting her feet. "And you?" "I am Fiona!" she smiled, trying to comfort her. "Are you alone?" Maria looked down at the ground, torn. "No... yes... I just don't want to go home..." A wave of sadness washed over her face. Fiona felt a pang of sympathy for her. "It's okay," she said softly. "Can I hang out with you for a little bit? I would love to hear you sing." Maria looked up, a glimmer of hope breaking through her sadness. "Really...?" "Yeah," Maria smiled warmly. Maria managed a small, relieved smile. "Okay... you can."
